The Front Desk Team
The smiling faces you’ll see behind the reception desk when you enter our office belong to our front desk team. They work together to look after patients when they arrive in the office, manage patient flow throughout the day and schedule future appointments.

Jan is usually the first smiling face you will see when you walk into the office. Jan has been with Humber Valley Dental for 6yrs.In addition to keeping the front desk running well, Jan handles a number of other tasks that keep the office running smoothly.

The Patient Care Co-ordinator / Reception

Meeting our patient’s needs is a top priority; so much so that we have a position dedicated exclusively to it. We have added this position not to reduce the time the hygienist and dentist spend talking to you, but to ensure that there is someone to answer any questions that come up before or after you are sitting in the dental chair. The patient care coordinator also works with you to plan out treatment appointments for more complex procedures and will help you work with your insurance company to understand treatment costs and coverage.

Susan Smythe
patientcare@humbervalleydental.ca

Susan has been in this community over 20 years. You will see Susan’s smiling face at the front desk but meeting our patient’s needs is her top priority. Working with Dr. Jutras, Dr. Gautham and the hygienist, Susan is someone that can answer any questions that come up about your treatment before or after sitting in the dental chair. The patient care coordinator also works with you to plan out treatment appointments for more complex procedures and will help you work with your insurance company to understand treatment costs and coverage.

The Assistants
Effective dentistry requires very close teamwork between the dentist and the chair side assistant. They play an important role in the care you receive. Both of our regular chair side assistants have gone beyond the basic dental assisting accreditation to earn their Level II Dental Assistants Certification.

In addition to the duties of a dental assistant, preparing for procedures and working with the dentist, Level II Dental Assistants are qualified to take impressions, polish teeth, apply fluoride, give oral hygiene instruction, place and remove rubber dams and place sealants.

Lisa Meffen Lisa Meffen, CDA Level II
Lisa has 12 years of assisting experience, most of it with Humber Valley Dental. Lisa is Dr. Jutras’ assistant and clinic manager. A long time Bolton resident, Lisa is the mother of 2 daughters; Halia and Alena.

Stephanie is a certified Level I Dental Assistant. Her dental knowledge goes beyond the classroom to include several years of practical chair side assisting experience, where she still occasionally may be found. She has worked as an assistant with both Dr. Jutras and Dr. Gautham. She is the mother of Emmitt who will soon be 1 year old.
Amanda Gaudet Amanda Gaudet, CDA Level II
Amanda graduated as a level II Dental Assistant in the fall of 2009 and began working with Humber Valley Dental right out of college. Amanda assists with both Dr. Jutras and Dr. Gautham part-time. She can also be found working at reception with Jan and Susan, where she'll greet you with a warm smile
Rebecca Wile Rebecca Wile, CDA Level II
Rebecca graduated from the Georgian College Dental Assisting Program as a Certified Level II Dental Assistant. Since 2007 she has been at Humber Valley Dental where she works closely as Dr. Gautham's Assistant. In her spare time she can still be found doing a little bit of dog grooming. Rebecca married her husband Mark this year in Mexico.

The Hygienists
The Hygiene team plays a critical role in your ongoing oral health. They perform regular cleanings, measure gum depths and record gum changes to monitor the health of your gums and develop treatment plans to get your gums as healthy as possible. As a critical part of the dental team, they work with the dentist to identify a range of other dental needs you may have. Because most patients spend more time with the hygienist than the dentist, it is important to have a hygienist that you are comfortable with.

While the Humber Valley Dental Hygienists work as a team, usually you will have most of your appointments with one specific hygienist. As you scan our Hygiene Team member’s profiles you will see they all have considerable practical experience. And just like our Doctors, all of our Hygienists are parents, so they have lots of experience dealing with children – in and out of the dental chair.
