Zoom2
Take the first step in feeling good and looking great with brighter, whiter teeth in an hour.
Zoom2 Tooth Whitening is safe, effective and very fast, and is performed only by a dental professional. Zoom2 is a light-assisted tooth whitening procedure that is used to lighten dark or discoloured teeth. Zoom2 can be used to whiten most stains, but is most effective on yellow and brown stained teeth that have never been whitened before. Although results vary, Zoom2 has been proven to lighten up to 6 shades. As with any whitening product, Zoom2 will not lighten porcelain, or white restorative material.
Ideal candidates for Zoom2 should be in good health and free of decay, plaque and tartar. Zoom2 is not recommended for pregnant or nursing women, children under 18 years of ago, or anyone that is taking photosensitive drugs.

Frequently asked questions about Zoom2 Whitening:
What is Zoom2 Tooth Whitening?
Zoom2 is a light-activated bleaching process that lightens discolouration of enamel.
What causes tooth discolouration?
There are many causes of tooth discolouration. The most common include aging, consumption of staining substances such as coffee, tea, colas, tobacco, red wine, purple juices etc., or taking tetracycline or excess fluoride as a child or infant.
Who may benefit from tooth whitening?
Almost anyone can benefit. Treatment may not be as effective for some as it is for others. We can determine if you are a viable candidate for this procedure through a thorough oral exam, including a shade assessment.
Do many people whiten their teeth?
More people than you might imagine. At Humber Valley Dental, we can help you achieve the brightest, most sparkling smile possible. It can really make a big difference. The Zoom2 Whitening System makes it easier and faster than ever before.
Is whitening safe?
Yes, research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth under the supervision of a dentist is safe. In fact, many dentists including Dr. Gautham and Dr. Jutras consider whitening a safe cosmetic dental procedure. As with any tooth whitening product, Zoom2 is not recommended for children under 18 years of age, and pregnant or nursing women.
How long do the results last?
By following some of our simple post-whitening care instructions, your teeth will always be lighter than they were before. To keep your teeth looking their best, we recommend flossing, brushing daily with whitening toothpaste, and occasional touch-ups with take-home whitening gel every 6-12months. These are professional formula products and designed specifically to keep your teeth their brightest and they are available only through our office or another dental professional. You will be provided with special trays to do the occasional touch-up to maintain your Zoom whitened teeth. We can monitor the shade of your teeth at your future regular check-up to advise you when you need to touch up.
Is there any difference between over-the-counter tooth whiteners and Zoom2?
Yes! Consulting with us is always the first step to whitening your teeth safely. Plus, over-the-counter tooth whitening strips, brush-on gels and toothpastes take weeks or months to whiten often just your front teeth, only a couple shades. There is also the risk of ingesting the whitening gel from over the counter products. Overuse of whitening products can also damage enamel. Professional whitening systems have the ability to safely whiten teeth predictably under the supervision of dental personnel.
How does the Zoom2 In-Office System work?
The Zoom2 light-activated whitening gel’s active ingredient is Hydrogen Peroxide. As the Hydrogen Peroxide gel is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel, bleaching coloured substances while the structure of the tooth is unchanged. The Zoom light aids in activating the Hydrogen Peroxide and helps it penetrate the surface of the tooth enamel.
What does a patient experience during the Zoom! In-Office procedure?
During the procedure, patients may comfortably listen to music; many actually fall asleep. Individuals with a strong gag reflex or anxiety may have difficulty undergoing this procedure.
Are there any side effects?
Some people experience temporary increased tooth sensitivity to cold during treatment. These symptoms disappear within 1-3 days after interruption or completion of the treatment. A desensitizing product is also available from our office to treat sensitivity.
How is exposure to the Zoom2 light controlled?
The Zoom2 procedure requires that all soft tissue in and around the mouth be protected. The clinician is required to monitor the procedure to insure any exposed skin or tissue is isolated and protected. Protective eyewear is required during the procedure. Light sensitive individuals including those undergoing PUVA (Psoralen + UV Radiation) therapy or other photo-chemotherapy, as well as patients with melanoma, should not undergo the Zoom2 in-office procedure. Patients taking any light sensitive drugs or substances, whether over-the-counter, prescription or homeopathic, should consult their primary physician prior to procedure. Anyone who is not eligible for Zoom2 In-Office for these reasons may be an excellent candidate for Take-Home whitening products.
How long does Zoom2 In-Office Whitening take?
The complete procedure takes just over an hour. The procedure begins with a preparation period followed by one hour of bleaching. A five minute fluoride treatment completes the procedure. A cleaning is recommended prior to the actual Zoom2 whitening session.
How does the Take-Home Whitening System work?
NiteWhite® is the take-home whitening system we use. It uses a breakthrough, dual-barrel chemistry that is engineered to accelerate whitening efficacy in two unique ways. First, it utilizes a breakthrough surfactant technology for improved gel penetration. Second, it helps to control the activation of Hydrogen Peroxide. This innovative formula creates an activation matrix that helps regulate the release of free radicals for optimal results.
How long does NiteWhite Take-Home Whitening take?
NiteWhite Take-Home gel is designed to be worn for an hour per application; usually once a day for 10 – 14 days. Your dental professional will advise you on how many days you should wear each application. A recent study showed that you can achieve an average improvement of two shades* after just three applications; however individual results may vary. Your dental professional will help you determine how many applications are right for you.
How is the NiteWhite Take-Home System different from the Zoom2 In-Office System?
The main difference between the two systems is that you use the Take-Home System in the convenience of your own home over a week or two and The Zoom2 In-Office System is performed in the office in one visit.

A note of assurance:
Tooth whitening is a well-established procedure in cosmetic dentistry. Hydrogen Peroxide, the active agent in Zoom2 has also been safely used for many years in the occasional treatment of gums.
The whitening process is effective on most discoloured teeth. Darker stains, such as those caused by antibiotics, are more difficult to whiten. The degree of whiteness will vary from patient to patient, depending on the structure of the teeth.
