What can I expect during my first appointment?
Being nervous during your first dental visit is natural, but we’ll ensure your experience is comfortable and seamless. After a warm welcome, we’ll help you complete the necessary paperwork. However, you can skip this by filling out our new patient forms before your appointment. We’ll also take the time to understand your medical and dental history to help customize your treatment.Â
Here’s what the rest of your visit involves.
- Dental exam:Â A dental exam is a painless and quick procedure, so you have nothing to worry about. It’s an opportunity for the dentist to inspect your teeth, gums, and other oral structures for signs of infections, tooth decay, misalignments, and failing dental work. During your dental checkup, our dentist uses technology to inspect even the most difficult-to-reach areas of your mouth with an intraoral camera. Our dental exams are comprehensive to ensure we leave nothing to chance.Â
- Digital X-rays: If you’ve had dental X-rays taken within the past six months, feel free to bring them with you. However, we will still take new X-rays to ensure we have the most up-to-date images for our records. Digital X-rays detect cysts, tumors, bone loss, impacted teeth, and other issues hidden beneath the gum line. Are you edgy about dental X-rays? Don’t be! We use advanced dental X-rays that generate high-quality dental images with minimal radiation.Â
- Dental cleanings: Our dental hygienist will professionally clean your teeth to remove plaque and tartar deposits from areas your toothbrush and dental floss cannot reach. When left untreated, these unhealthy deposits can cause numerous oral health problems, including gum disease, tooth decay, and bad breath (halitosis). We use gritted toothpaste to polish your teeth after your dental cleaning to give them a smooth, glossy shine.Â
- Treatment plan: The dentist will discuss the findings of your dental exam and devise a treatment plan to restore your oral health. Whether you have tooth decay, gum infection, or damaged teeth, we can help restore your smile. We’ll also discuss your smile enhancement options to elevate your smile’s aesthetic appeal.
- Education:Â Empowering you to take charge of your oral health and providing the right information is crucial to that process. We’ll provide personalized advice on maintaining your oral health between visits. This includes proper brushing and flossing techniques, dietary recommendations, and risk factors like teeth grinding. For parents/guardians, we educate them on the harmful effects of thumb sucking, mouth breathing, and prolonged baby bottle-feeding on their child’s oral development.Â
